Level Design at T-minus 2.5 days
Hi everyone,
Hope if you are working on a project currently, that it's going is smoothly! It's Day 5 of Brackey's Game Jam and I am deep into my level design having had a little bit of play testing and mechanics tuning done already. With some recent mechanic changes, the pace of my game has increased quite a bit so the need for more content has presented itself in a big way. Prefabs and good tools definitely make it easier, I love working with Unity (and 2020 seems even better than ever!).
While, so far, everything is on track and I've managed to stick to my rough schedule:
Day 1: Concept/Sketch/Design
Day2: Code and create core mechanics and test
Day3: Finish Scripting and gameplay objects
Day4: MVP fully playable with at least 1 minute of game play, integrate sound and music
Day5: Further Level Design (content)
Day6: Polish (lighting and fine tuning)
Day7: Last minute testing and adjustment, squeeze more non-core design and nice-to-haves :) Submit at least 2 hours in advance of deadline.
This is pretty much the layout I try to follow now for jams adjusted for length and seems to work well. This one is a bit tougher due to time constraints towards the end (big weekend here with family and guests!), but I am confident I'll have something decent finished in time for submission :)
What sort of schedule do you follow and what hurdles have you encountered so far?
See you at the finish line!
