Breaking Time is our Submission for the GameDevTV 2020 Game Jam. It is a short Platformer/Adventure game with one open platform level and some dialogue choices that will influence the outcome at the end of the game (both the performance and the choices).
You play as Joe, a workaholic father of one who is so focused on his job he doesn't see his family slip away. After a terrible accident Joe wakes up in a strange place, and knows he needs to make things right and fix the time he has lost with his family.
How to Play:
Required: Mouse and Keyboard. Windows 10 PC (DX 11/12) or Mac OSX.
While the game contains a guide (both in the main menu and a helpful little spirit in the game), here's the basics:
WASD: Move
Space: Jump
T: summon or dismiss the guide (useful for light)
NOTE: You can now Toggle a MOON (provides ambient night light) in the options menu. By default this is off for the intended dark night experience but if you find it too dark, you can turn this on and preserve some of the nice lighting effects of the darkness :)
The objective is to gather the time crystals located on the platforms with Green Spheres. When you pick up a crystal the sphere turns red to mark the completed platform areas. Bring the crystals to the tree in the middle and don't let your time energy (represented by a clock on the UI) run out. Fill it by collecting more crystals or standing near the tree.
Collecting all crystals in a level results in a memory sequence where a choice(s) must be made.
Joe is trying to fix his mistakes with regards to his family, so keep that in mind.
There is one level and one memory sequence with four possible outcomes in the game (cut due to time! :().
